GENTLE REMINDERS

There are many things around us – everyday, everywhere, yet only a handful of those may occasionally bring joy to us. It is really in that moment of pure joy that we realise who we really are. They may remind us of moments that we once lived – that we were about to relive in the following few seconds. They bring back memories of occasions, loved ones, and us.

Little things they are, sitting proudly and comfortably in one corner since all this time. A small recording, a neat sketch – mistakes of which only one mind knows, a little crumpled note you once made, an ink spot under the carpet, and many more still.

A failed piece of work: a promise you made.
A rag: you could never sleep without.
A piggy bank: a sealed treasure you daily eyed.
A scarred knee: those carefree old days.
A coffee stained couch: a hearty conversation.
A dusty pile of books: obviously you’ll clean it today.
A doodle on the corner of an empty paper: some day dreaming.

A faded letter, a bus ticket, some dried paints, a scratched table top, an art work with a house, a tree, and three birds, a few photographs, news paper cuttings, magazines, video games, and many more still.

These little things bring to us few regrets, some tears, lots of smiles, and quite some hope. We may see them every day, but notice only on the rare fortunate occasions. I call them ‘gentle reminders’ of the many things we once were, and the lot many we are going to be.

THIS : THAT

There are times, when we are at a standstill even while we are moving along. Times when happiness, excitement and fear all exist in that one moment of thought. The moment of thought, which is like air waiting to become the wind - determined to blow in a particular direction.

Below are a few lines, dedicated to that one and many moments of thought. Lines to help us hang in there for a little while longer - lines to stir us a little while we wait.

If dark is the place to be:
for tears,
Let it be for smiles as well.

If void is the space to be:
with fears,
Let it be with tries as well.

If still is the way to be:
for dreams,
Let it be for fears as well.

If alone is the state to be:
for you,
Let there be space for strengths as well.

WHILES

Let us enjoy
the
whiles that we have.

While,

The whiles that pester us
become the
whiles the we once had.
